Making Online Content Pay: Non-Scam, Spam-Free Ways to Promote, Share

I've been freelance writing online successfully since 2006. By successfully, I mean my online content upfront payments and residuals earn sustainable income that allowed me to pay off $22,000 in debt and quit my full-time substitute teaching job. Readers interacting with our content (reading, sharing, commenting) is what earns money. I'm frequently asked how I attract said readers and ergo, page views? Short answer: I share, blog and network. Okay, but how do you promote content ethically? Pertinent question. I promote content using approved sources to make online content pay.  Making Online Content Pay: Non-Scam, Spam-Free Ways to Promote, Share

I finally bit the bullet, joined the 21st century and bought a smartphone.  I got a cheapie--$30. It's a Kyocera Event with Virgin Mobile pay as you go plan for 35 bucks a month. I fought smartphones kicking and screaming because I think people spend too much time messing with them. But I do realize there's a lot you can do it with smartphone especially as an online writer. Here are 10 Reasons Online Writers Need Smartphones

Google Search Engine Indexing Favors Content Sites it Downgraded Last Year

Well this online writer is doing a dance of joy. Last year, my content on another site took a whopping hard hit from Google. So did everyone else who wrote for the site. What that translated to was halved page views and payments. It now looks like Google might be smiling on us again and that trend may be reversed. My page views and earnings are triple what they were. The site is Yahoo! Contributor Network. Read on for details.  Google Search Engine Indexing Favors Content Sites it Downgraded Last Year

Get Windows 8 Traditional Start Menu Like Windows 7 Without Updating to Windows 8.1

Can we just agree that Windows 8 is should be called the 8th level of hell? Over-complicated, too many ways to access things you don't want, not enough ways to get to what you do want, gobs of pre-loaded commercial software from Netflix, Kindle, Ebay, all of which Windows Firewall is default set to allow through. Yet important things like, oh say, Google Chrome, routers, aren't. And the classic start menu? Where did that go. Windows 8.1 promises a classic start menu but it's nothing like the old one. And you don't need to update to 8.1 or RT 8.1 to get it. Here how to find your old start menu from Windows 8.   Get Windows 8 Traditional Start Menu Similar to Windows 7

Writing for the Web 101 Too Many Keywords, Links Hurts SEO

A discussion on a freelance forum sparked this post. It was posited that comments create linkbacks to our profiles and posts. This draws search traffic. Links form channels or magnets that attract views, clicks, interaction. Last week, I wrote on how to cash in on SEO by making links of keywords. Had we the capabilities to link in posts (other than just adding raw HTML), I would link "search engine optimization." Today's advice is to use links sparingly, but effectively. Read more on how to do that.   Writing for the Web 101 Too Many Keywords, Links Hurts SEO

Writing for the Web 101 Work Keywords, SEO, Unique Tags

Greetings, fellow online writers. Do you like to make money? Of course you do. I've been freelancing and blogging since 2005. Here are tips. Today's is: work that SEO (search engine optimization)! Give your keywords a workout. Writing for the Web 101 Keywords, SEO, Unique Tags

Link and Tags Improve SEO, Blog Hits, Ad Revenue Earnings

I’ve been blogging since 2008. I maintain 55 niche (subject specific) blogs, like this one on work at home tips. I do pretty well on Google Adsense and Infolinks ad revenue. So I spend a lot of time experimenting to see what works well. I always included links, also called “tags” on my blog posts. A few months ago, I quit adding tags. I thought that it might cause problems with Google indexing (my blog earnings had dropped). I cut back and removed some links. Bad idea. Blogging and Web Writing 101 Do Blog Preventative Maintenance

I've been writing online since 2005 and maintain 55 different niche blogs. For the past few days, I've noticed ad revenue earnings dropped. That sent me back to the drawing board (blog layout) to see what might need changing.

I discovered some ads weren't loading properly because of software changes. I moved one ad below the fold so I wouldn't get nabbed by Google's Top Heavy Algorithm (too many ads, not enough content in the viewing area). Writing for the Web 101 Do Blog Preventative Maintenance

Editorial Conflicts: Original Content vs Rehash Dilemma

I've written online since 2005. Editorial demands differ depending on assignment requirements. One assignment dilemma wreaks havoc: rehash vs. virgin content. God forbid any site admit to rewriting content. It sounds unethical and plagiarized. But that's exactly what editors expect writers to do.

It's common knowledge that quotes must be sourced. You can't say something someone else said without giving them credit. You can't copy the bulk of your article from someone else even if you source. Only 5-10 percent at most or it will be plagiarism. But professional articles require quotes and sourcing.   Editorial Conflicts: the Virgin Content vs Rehash Dilemma

How Bubblews Buys My Groceries

I posted last week that Bubblews earnings buy my groceries. Everyone was very polite and nice in the comments, but I'm sure some were thinking, "uh, how?" Good question. I'll explain. How Bubblews Buys My Groceries

How to Manage Bubblews Posts, Interaction, Notifications During Gateway Errors - News - Bubblews

That Wicked Witch of the 504 Gateway Error and her flying monkey captcha errors. Somebody ought to drop a house on them. Lacking ruby slippers, I've come up with an alternative. Here are ways to navigate the Bubblews yellow brick road, manage connections and get to the Emerald City. Manage Bubblews Posts, Interaction, Notifications Through Gateway Errors

What Length of Article Works Best Depends on Site

If you're old like me (where did those wrinkles come from?), you might remember the shampoos "Long and Silky" and "Short and Sassy." Supposedly the formula differed for hair lengths. I don't know about that. But I do think the formula and success rate for Bubblews post length differs. The trick is to gauge site metrics--what works better.

I've tried both. Short and sassy seems the better fit here (mind I said seems). I feel bad. Some of you write long, involved well-researched posts. They're worthy of professional publication. And most aren't getting the attention they deserve.   What Bubbblews Post Length Works for You? Short and Sassy or Long and Silky

Is Bubblews Crashing My Internet?

I like writing for Bubblews. But lately my internet has been crashing more than usual and mostly on this site. I bought a new router and am still having problems. We have been running Windows 8, Google Chrome for months with no problems. I used to get the gateway errors on individual pages, but my router didn't disconnect the entire internet. I have reset everything I can to optimize. Read on for details for what might be causing internet problems.   Dear Bubblews, Are You Crashing My Internet?

Dealing with Plagiarism: Plage Rage Is Counterproductive But Stealing Content Should Be Reported

I just read a post saying that name-calling plagiarizers is unethical and hurtful. I agree, "plage rage" as I call it, is bad for everyone. But plagiarism is a problem, nonetheless. Speaking as a victim of countless forms of plagiarism, up to and including theft of my name, I get the frustration. I have a pretty well-known byline off Bubblews. That was stolen and a completely fake profile made on another writing site. Problem is, it's also my real name, not just a moniker. And it's very unusual--Marilisa Sachteleben. 10 Problem Interactions of Bubblews

There are some things that go on within the Bubblews community that while not violations, are nevertheless problems. If you do one or more of these consistently, I won't read your posts and I might disconnect. That sounds rude. But it isn't written to the 99 percent of my connections who play nice. It's those who will  not grow up and do it right that bug me.  10 Reasons I Will Not Interact and Might Disconnect

How to Blog Using Shareaholic

Framing Interview Questions for Bubblews

I think it's neat  that Bubblews CEOs have offered to be interviewed for our personal blogs. I'm a "manic blogger" (I have 55 right now). So having a platform is no problem. But choosing which one might be. I'm going to write up short descriptions of the ones I think might fit and ask them choose which they think would be best. And interviewing is right up my alley.

But I am, confidentially, little (lot) nervous. I don't want to ask commonplace or trivial questions. I like +Bubblews and want it to show. I also want to know more about what makes these guys tick. I mean seriously, for two such young guys to have brought such a huge, successful enterprise a Bubblews to fruition is nothing short of ground-breaking.  So here's how I'm framing the questions. Hoping to Interview Arvind or Jason (and Think up Great Questions)

Bubblews Addicts Anonymous Says Easy Does It? I Say YOLO

Warning: This post is silly with a kernel of truth. But any resemblance to self-help groups, living or dead, is purely coincidental. All of us who write for Bubblews agree it is addicting. And what's the first thing we should do with addiction? Start a 12-step group. We fear anything we enjoy too much, especially us masochistic writers. We think in order to make money and be successful we have to hate what we write. That words must come at sacrifice. Okay hyperbole, but seriously, what's so bad about enjoying a site that pays well and is fun? Nothing.

But no, we have to analyze our addiction. Break it. control it. Well, let's use those recovery slogans with Bubblews. Slogan one: Easy does it. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. We should stop perserveratively posting, reading each other's posts, liking, commenting, sharing. All this excessive interacting is creating dependency and codependency and ..... Heck No! I say seriously enjoy Bubblews. Fire up those laptops and phones! Get busy writing! Get busy interacting! Have a ball! And Merry Christmas from the host of this blog. Bubblews Addicts Anonymous Easy Does It? How About Watusi Party!

Bubblews Paid Half Our Family Vacation

I've been a work-at-home online writer since 2005, full time since 2010. I've always preached generating multiple streams of income. But never so vehemently as when I started freelancing. I don't put my eggs in one basket. I write for multiple sites and spread my content across the internet. I blog to promote my content and earn money from ads.

Bubblews is one of my favorite paid to write sites. Over the years, I've probably written for 12 different sites. I only deal with the better ones. And Bubblews gets high marks. It's has been a great source of residual income.

Bubblews Like Dislike System Glitch

Curiouser and curiouser. I've been catching up on Bubblews reading and three times now I got the banner message "you successfully liked this post" when I hadn't even read it yet. One said I disliked the post when I hadn't clicked anything that I know of. I wasn't planning to click anything, just leave a comment, because the post was advocating a violation of  Bubblews TOU. I had to click "like" to remove the "dislike" so I wouldn't start a possible dislike war. Read onBubblews Says I Liked/Disliked Posts I Have Not Even Read - News - Bubblews
